World’s costliest car launched in India

Posted on 21:18 by Unknown
Aston Martin has officially arrived in India. And with its launch, it claims to be giving, what is known to be the world’s most expensive car, Bugatti Veyron, a run for its money. The limited edition Aston Martin One-77, priced at about $2.3 million (approximately R 11.10 crore),seems to have replaced the $1.4 million worth Veyron off the top spot. “The One-77 will be available to Indian buyers at a price of R 20 crore or more, making it the most expensive car in the world,” confirms Lalit Choudary, director, Performance Cars Pvt Ltd, a division of Infinity Cars Pvt Ltd. “It can be customised, so the cost can differ according to how it’s made.” The sports car that was recently ordered by ace tennis player, Rafael Nadal, has been crafted under the aegis of Aston Martin’s head of design, Marek Reichman.

Rumour has it that only seven out of the 77 vehicles that will ever be made, are on offer for Indian buyers. The rest of the coupes, it is said, have already been sold. Without revealing the exact number, Choudary says, “Yes, many of the 77 have been sold. And only a handful will be available in India.”
Even though Mumbai roads might not be the most ideal to bet R 20-odd crore on, Choudary is convinced it will find a market among India’s indulgent few. “We’re sure we will manage to sell them. The exclusivity attached to the car is something very rare,” he adds.
Hand-built by the iconic automobile manufacturers in Warwickshire, England, the car’s 7.3 litre unit has been tuned to produce 750 bhp, touted once again, as one of the highest output available from a V 12 engine anywhere in the world. Approximately 2,700 hours and 27 technicians, who assemble the vehicle by hand, are required to put together a customised fast machine like this from scratch.

Mobile media isn't taking us away from older media

Posted on 19:18 by Unknown
Smart phones aren't taking people away from traditional media sources like newspapers or television. Instead, mobile media are filling the spaces in people's daily routine in which other sources are either unavailable or inconvenient to use.

That suggests mobile media use is taking a different path to popularity than did technologies like TV, said John Dimmick, who led the study as professor of communication at Ohio State University, the journal New Media and Society reports.
"Typically, what happens with new media is that they compete with and displace older media to a certain extent, like television did with radio," Dimmick said.

"But at least early in its development, mobile media isn't taking us away from older media - it has its own separate niche," he said, according to an Ohio statement.

Dimmick conducted the study with Gregory Hoplamazian, graduate student at Ohio State and John Christian Feaster of Rowan University, New Jersey.

Dimmick noted that the data in this study was collected in 2007, the year when the first Apple iPhone was released.

The success of the iPhone may mean that mobile media has started to make inroads into the use of other media technologies, Dimmick said, but we won't know for sure until new studies are completed. This study involved 166 participants aged between 19 and 68 years.

Japan: Biggest quake in 140 yrs, tsunami kills more than 300

Posted on 19:08 by Unknown

The biggest earthquake to hit Japan since records began 140 years ago struck the northeast coast on Friday, triggering a 10-meter tsunami that swept away everything in its path, including boats, cars, homes and people as widespread fires burned out of control.

Police said 200 to 300 bodies have been found in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai. Police said another 88 were confirmed killed and 349 were missing.

The death toll was likely to continue climbing given the scale of the disaster.

The US Geological Survey said the 2:46 pm quake was a magnitude 8.9, the biggest earthquake to hit Japan since officials began keeping records in the late 1800s. Meanwhile, authorities said more earthquakes measuring over 7.0 on the Richter scale could occur in and around Japan within a month.

Japan issued a state of emergency at a nuclear power plant after its cooling system had a mechanical failure. Trouble was reported at two other nuclear plants as well but there was no radiation leak at any.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said the measure at the nuclear power plant in Fukushima was a precaution and that the facility was not in immediate danger.

A tsunami warning was extended to a number of Pacific, Southeast Asian and Latin American nations, including Japan, Russia, Indonesia, New Zealand and Chile. In the Philippines, authorities said they expect a 3-foot (1-meter) high tsunami.

The quake struck at a depth of six miles (10 kilometers), about 80 miles (125 kilometers) off the eastern coast, the agency said. The area is 240 miles (380 kilometers) northeast of Tokyo.

The magnitude 8.9 offshore quake was followed by at least 19 aftershocks, most of them of more than magnitude 6.0. Dozens of cities and villages along a 1,300-mile (2,100-kilometer) stretch of coastline were shaken by violent tremors that reached as far away as Tokyo, hundreds of miles (kilometers) from the epicenter.

Bangalore metro is again on a trial hunt on Wednesday

Posted on 07:49 by Unknown

The first trail of Bangalore metro train was held on January 23, where it has carried various family members and relatives of the officials but this time its second trail run is without official’s kin.
Namma Metro’s second trail run was held on Wednesday twice from Byappannahalli Station to Trinity Circle Station. The trial run began at the Byappannahalli Station at 6.30 pm. It halted at the Trinity Circle Station at 7pm for 10 minutes and then rush back to Byappannahalli.
Earlier train officials had been questioned by newspapers for filling the train up with people when trail runs were on but this time the train is filled with some technical experts and drivers only. During trail run, experts and drivers are checking the track and traction system.
Initially it was planned that the train would be halted at Trinity Station and then it would be taken back to the Byappannahalli depot, for security reasons. And hence the second run occurs after a gap of 15 minutes.
Experts have closely monitored each and every system of train including brake and skid tests, to ensure that train is capable of taking smooth curves. The train ran at a speed of nearly 45km per hour.
It has been announced by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) that train would began its extensive trails from February 19.
