VIA Technologies offers new VIA Eden X2 processors

Posted on 10:10 by Unknown

We last caught a sight of VIA Technologies when it unfurled the VID series of industrial-class touchscreen displays. The company has now made news in the technological space with its newest VIA Eden X2 processors optimized for fanless implementation in a broad range of industrial and commercial embedded systems.
The units merge the company’s signature Eden fanless design principles in an optimized, power-efficient dual-core structure. The VIA Eden X2 processors merge two 64-bit, superscalar VIA Eden cores on one die. These new solutions claim to be the most power-efficient processors on the market. The VIA VT virtualization technology enables legacy software and applications to be incorporated in virtual scenarios without hampering the overall performance.
“Eden X2 shows how once again VIA is setting the pace when it comes to highly optimized, power-efficient processing,” commented Daniel Wu, Vice President, VIA Embedded Platform Division, VIA Technologies. “Embedded developers will relish the opportunity to integrate a native 64-bit, dual-core processor in passively cooled, ultra stable systems.”
In addition, the VIA AES Security Engine renders hardware-based data encryption along with essential tool in content protection and system security. VIA Eden X2 processors are touted to be 64-bit compatible, delivering a vital transition for the future of the embedded industry as 64-bit operating systems like Windows Embedded Standard 7 permit for immensely advanced data throughput per clock cycle. This further makes it simpler to modify massive data sets and amplify the performance levels.
These VIA Eden X2 processors also boast of compatibility with Windows CE and Linux operating systems. The units are based on the latest 40nm manufacturing process utilizing a VIA NanoBGA2 package of 21mm x 21mm with a die size of 11mm x 6mm. Besides, the processors are completely pin-to-pin compatible with VIA Eden, VIA C7 and VIA Nano E-Series processors.
The VIA Eden X2 Processors are now rolled out for sampling to project customers. Systems and boards accommodating these processors will hit shelves in Q2 2011.
